Bengal tiger

The Bengal tiger lives in South-East Asia, often called as the Indian subcontinent.

Thanks to many efforts of environmental organisations and the Indian government, the Bengal tiger is now the most common subspecies of the tiger. Now there are about 4500 wild Bengal tigers left.

White tigers are no in fact albinos, since they have black stripes and blue eyes. Albino tigers have hardly visible stripes and pink eyes. The chances of alibinism in tigers is unrelated to the chances of them being born white, which is steered by a different gene. There have been rumours from time to time of black tigers too, where the orange fur is replaced by black, making the stripes hard to see. It is believed that if true, the black tigers were very rare solitary examples.
